Biography
Jesús
Castañón Díaz was born in La Casanueva
(Moreda de Aller- Asturias ) in February 21, 1928 and he died
in Oviedo (Asturias) in April 16, 1990.
He
studied the primary education in the National School and in
La Salle School (Caborana de Aller); he studied the high school
in the Monastery of Corias and also in Alfonso II, the Chaste,
in Oviedo. He also realized his common courses based on the
Faculty of Arts in Oviedo, and he took the degree in Romance
Philology in the Complutense University from Madrid getting
the degree as journalist in the Official School of Journalism
from Madrid. He became Doctor in Romance Philology by Complutense
University from Madrid with the first-class mark cum laude
in 1969. He got married María Ángeles Rodríguez
Arango, and he had three children.
Between
1962 and 1980, he was Professor of Spanish Language and Literature
in National High Schools. Ever since to 1990 he was Professor
of Spanish Language and Literature in the High School University
for the Education of Teachers of EGB (Primary School) in Valladolid.
He
set up and edited the school magazine Jorge Manrique (1967-1973)
and the Tertulia Jorge Manrique (1968-1980) in Palencia. Also,
together with other poets, he coordinated the group Viernes
del arte joven, from whose activities there is a publication
of the same title carried out by the Cultural Local Office
in Palencia and published by Gráficas Diario-Día
in 1976.
In
Valladolid, he edited Encuentros con la literatura infantil
in 1984 and 1986, which were published in 1985 and 1989,
respectively.
He
has been Permanent Member in the Feijoo High School Feijoo
of Studies of the XVIII Century (Oviedo), Member in C.E. of
Centros de Estudios Locales (CECEL), Associated Member of
the Twentieth Century Spanish Association of America and Permanent
Member of Academy of the Institución Tello Téllez
de Meneses from the Illustrous County Council in Palencia.
In 1995 was nominated Honourable Member from the Asociación
Española de Amigos del Libro Infantil y Juvenil.
As
journalist, he has participated frequently in. Comarca (Mieres,1955-1968),
La Merced (Madrid, 1955-1960), Afanes del Magisterio (Escuela
Universitaria de EGB de Valladolid, 1980-1983) y en los diarios
Noticias de Palencia (sección "Página cultural",
Palencia, 1982-1983) y Nueva. Rioja (Logroño, 1956).
También ha colaborado esporádicamente en El
Diario Palentino-El Día de Palencia, El Norte de Castilla
(Valladolid), Hoja del Lunes (Valladolid) y en las revistas
Asturias Semanal (Oviedo), Castilla (Valladolid), Llanuras
(Valladolid), Rocamador (Palencia), Uriel (Salamanca)...
He
was town carrier in the feasts of San Martín in Moreda
de Aller in 1971, and also he was juror in several literary
prizes, among them we can include the Premio Palencia of theatre.
